Serle
A Melbourne-based contemporary abstract expressionist exploring the narrative between landscape and the visceral, kinetic and fixed states of being.
Biography
A life shaped by movement, place and design.
Born in Melbourne and raised in an artistic family, Simône grew up travelling extensively and living in Spain and France, later working in Hong Kong and Vancouver. That transient background continues to inform the movement, perspective and shifting sense of place within her work.
She studied painting under her father, artist John Serle, and later completed studies at Monash University and an honours degree in Interior Design at RMIT. Alongside a 25-year career in interior design in Australia and overseas, she has maintained a dedicated studio practice.
Artist's statement
Form and colour remain in motion.
Simône's practice moves between figurative suggestion and abstraction. Nature supplies textures, colours and fragments of landscape, while oil, acrylic and water are layered, resisted and merged to create new surfaces.
The work often suggests an aerial perspective without becoming figurative. Material collisions—the clash, merging and juxtaposition of mediums—create changing perceptions that feel connected to landscape but are never limited by it.
